This is a good practice set for primative and alternative fire building skills however it's billed as an emergency fire starting kit. First, having a fire can be a make or break live or die necessity, and as such should like you knife and compass and be on your physical person. At the very least instantly accessible. For this reason the kit should have a pair of MOLLE or MALICE straps to mount preferably to your belt (in case you and your pack are separated) or to the exterior of a pack for accessibility. Second in an emergency you need the fastest most reliable method of starting a fire in the most adverse of conditions first this means lifeboat matches and a fire starter that is hot enough and burns long enough to light wet 1" sticks as a minimum (there is a cheap and ultra reliable one available to everyone and the recipe should at the very least be included) than move on to other alternatives. Last this kit should be almost water proof, the bag is exceedingly well made and durable however it has a major flaw... The drawstring top, it does not seal completely closed. In fact mine maintains a 3/8s inch opening pulled as tightly closed as possible this could be eliminated quite easily by either making the kit a roll top or adding a few more inches to the top so a goose neck can be tied into it. I would suggest that if these suggestions do not tickle you fancy then redesignate the TACAMO to an advanced fire building skills kit. Because it does have exceedingly high quality components it just doesn't fit the bill as an EMERGENCY fire making kit. Because of the name and implied intent I can not give it a full 5 stars but as far as the value and quality it is unmatched.
