We have all heard about and seen survival paracord bracelets, so why not make a paracord survival necklace and have even more paracord on hand in case of an emergency. This article will detail how to make a simple 550 paracord survival necklace with a buckle. This design will incorporate a four strand braid.

Materials required are two six foot long sections of paracord, a plastic buckle or s-clip, scissors, and a lighter. Six foot sections of paracord will make a twenty-one inch necklace. To determine how much paracord needed for a desired circumference simply take 3.14 times the desired finished length in feet and round up to ensure you are not short. If you are making a paracord survival necklace for a child, you may want to consider using a quick release buckle for safety reasons.

To start, take one of the buckle ends and work both paracord sections through until there is half the length through the buckle. Now take the two sections of paracord and make and x in the middle of the buckle. Creating the x with the buckle in the middle of the paracord lengths creates four strands to work with. If this is your first time creating a 550 paracord survival necklace, you can make it easier by choosing two different colors. When crossing the lines you always cross the same length or color. You are not creating knots so you will have to hold the braid tight until you are finished.

Start to cross the paracord over the buckle, starting with the paracord on the bottom of the x. You will be creating an x over and over again. Continue this until you have enough left to attach to the other end of the buckle. A simple half not will work to attach the paracord to the buckle. Once the paracord is tied to the buckle, cut the ends to about a quarter of an inch, melt them and flatten them to the sides of the braid.
